AAEON Rugged Tablet Computers: RTC-1200, RTC-1010 and RTC-1010RK

Our range of Rugged Tablet Computers are designed to endure the toughest environments, with IP ratings and MIL-STD-810 testing for industrial durability indoors or out. Available in sizes from 7” to 11.6”, they feature a full range of I/O options for seamless connectivity with your tools and systems.

What are the AAEON RTC rugged tablets?

AAEON's RTC series is a family of industrial tablet computers built to keep working where consumer tablets fail: in rain, dust, heat, cold, vibration and accidental drops. Each model is rated IP65 against dust and water jets and tested to MIL-STD-810 standards. Each has a sealed, scratch-resistant touchscreen and a rich set of industrial ports. They give field teams and factory staff a full computing platform they can carry, mount in a vehicle, or dock at a workstation.

The range covers three needs. The RTC-1200 is an 11.6" Windows tablet with 7th Gen Intel® Core™ i7/i5/i3 and Celeron® processors for performance-heavy work. The RTC-1010 is a 10.1" Intel Pentium/Celeron tablet that runs Windows 10 IoT or Android 8.1 and is aimed at demanding, I/O-rich applications. The RTC-1010RK is the Android-based update to the 1010, built on a Rockchip RK3399 processor with Android 11, a high-brightness display and newer wireless standards.

Key features

  • Rugged by design: All three models are IP65-rated and tested to MIL-STD-810. The RTC-1010 and RTC-1010RK are specified for drops from 122 cm.
  • Wide operating temperature: The RTC-1200 runs from -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F). The RTC-1010 is specified for -20°C to 50°C.
  • Choice of platform: Pick a Windows or Android model depending on your software.
  • Industrial I/O: The 1010 and 1010RK include COM (RS-232/422/485), LAN and multiple USB ports.
  • Built-in data capture: Options include 2D barcode scanners and NFC/RFID readers, and the 1010 can also take a magnetic stripe reader.
  • Connectivity and positioning: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, optional 4G LTE and GPS are available. The 1010 and 1010RK also support other satellite navigation options.
  • Cameras: The RTC-1010 has a 2MP front and 8MP rear camera with flash. The RTC-1010RK has 8MP front and rear cameras.
  • Outdoor-readable screen: The RTC-1010RK offers an 800-nit display option.

Which industries benefit, and why?

Manufacturing and factory automation. Machine operators and maintenance teams need a screen that tolerates dust, oil, vibration and cleaning. The COM and LAN ports let the tablet connect directly to equipment, and the built-in barcode and NFC options support traceability and quality checks.

Logistics, warehousing and transport. Drivers and warehouse staff scan, pick and update records all day in cold stores, loading bays and vehicles. A drop-tested tablet with a hot-swappable battery, vehicle mounts and high-brightness display options keeps shifts running.

Field service, utilities and energy. Engineers working outdoors need GPS, cameras, mobile connectivity and a wide temperature range to inspect assets and complete digital work orders.

Defense and public safety. The MIL-STD-810 testing and secure smart card reader options suit mobile command, inspection and ruggedized communications. AAEON itself positions the RTC-1010 for military use.

The common thread is cost of failure. A standard tablet in these settings means broken screens, lost data and downtime, whereas a rugged tablet lowers replacement and downtime costs.

Frequently asked questions

1. What is a rugged tablet, and how is it different from a regular tablet?
A rugged tablet is built to survive dust, water, drops, vibration and extreme temperatures. AAEON's RTC models are IP65-rated and tested to MIL-STD-810. They also add industrial features that consumer tablets lack, such as serial ports, barcode and NFC readers, and swappable batteries.

2. What does IP65 mean?
IP65 means the device is fully sealed against dust and protected against water jets from any direction. It is suitable for rain, washdown-style splashing and dusty workplaces, but it is not designed to be submerged.

3. Which model should I choose: RTC-1200, RTC-1010 or RTC-1010RK?
Choose the RTC-1200 if you need Intel Core performance and a larger 11.6" Windows screen. Choose the RTC-1010 for a compact 10.1" Intel tablet with flexible I/O. Choose the RTC-1010RK if your applications run on Android 11 and you want a bright 800-nit display option and Bluetooth 5.2. Note that the RTC-1200 carries a phase-out notice, so check availability first.

4. Can these tablets scan barcodes and read NFC or RFID?
Yes. The RTC-1010 and RTC-1010RK offer optional 2D barcode scanners and NFC/RFID readers. The RTC-1010 also supports smart card readers and an optional magnetic stripe reader. Specify the options when you order.

5. Can they be used in vehicles or at a fixed workstation?
Yes. AAEON offers docking stations, VESA/RAM mounting brackets, hand straps, shoulder belts and DC power adaptors. These let the tablet move between handheld use, a vehicle mount and a desk.
